Tamar

My nine year old dog Jesse passed away in September of 2006. June of 2007 I was still grieving and I wasn’t ready for a new dog. However, a little black chow mix dog named Midnight needed a new home. The family who owned her thought of me. You see I was familiar with this mean aggressive, dirty little dog because I had tried to help the family’s daughter train her in the summer of 2006 for free “need I say”. The family’s lack of knowledge and inconsistent training habit did not help so I gave up. June of 2007 the family’s twelve-year-old daughter Kendra called me. She wanted me to have Midnight, because the family was going on the mission field to serve the Lord. I said no I’m sorry that I was not ready for a new dog. (I still was grieving the loss of Jesse.) The Lord does work in mysterious ways! I couldn’t rest and I was very uneasy that day. I knew I was to own that dog and would not rest until I called Kendra. I picked up Midnight two weeks later. Midnight showed her appreciation with a nice bite to my arm.

It is three and half years later, and Midnight (how she was known to the family that once owned her) has a new name and a new purpose in life. ‘Tamar’ is my service dog and because of her I have changed my own beliefs about aggressive dogs. Yes, they can be rehabilitated. She fulfills a need in my life, a person with a disability and as a dog trainer, to be a better trainer to the families and their dogs I help to train. I use her to show people why we must fulfill dogs’ needs with exercise, discipline, and then affection.

Thank you Lord for the knowledge of Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer. He is the best. Thank you Lord for Tamar for bringing her in my life to learn to live in the moment. Thank you Lord for Jesse he will always have a place in my heart.
