Gonzo
Rachel and Gonzo
This story is about Gonzo, a dalmatian that gave me the love of dogs. Growing up i never had a pet. My parents were'nt much for animals. Because I was never around dogs, I was scared of them. It didnt matter if they were big or small, I didnt like being around them. Then years later I met my husband. he is an animal lover and has always had dogs growing up. We talked about getting a dog. I always thought dalmatians were so cute so we talked about getting one of them. Awhile later one of our friends had a cousin who had a 6 month dalmatian that they were taking to the SPCA because they couldnt take care of that. My husband didnt want to let that happne. He went and looked at the dog and came home and told me we had to take him, so we went and got him. He was a big bundle of enerfy. Since he was only 6 months old and didnt know his name, we changed it and named him Gonzo. The name fit perfectly. At first I wasnt sure about him. He was so hyper and crazy that it scared me. But of course he grew on me and I grew to love him like he was my child. Gonzo was a crazy dog and always make us laugh. It was never boring with him around. I treated him better than some people treat their kids. Unfortunatley he developed some problems. He had to have surgery to remove an urate stone from his bladder. We then had to have him on prescription food and watch everything he ate. Then when he was about 11, he developed some heart problems. There wasnt much they could do with his age, but we put him on heart medicine which seemed to work. Unfortunately he died on January 7th 2008 at the age of 13. We did everything we could for him. I was with him when he died and it was like losing a part of me. He was the best dog ever and I miss him everyday. Because of Gonzo (and my husband) I was given the best gift ever - The love of dogs. On a side note, we have since adopted a dog from the SPCA. He will never replace Gonzo but Charlie is a great dog and is much a part of our family as Gonzo was.
