Casey
Ed Toyer and Casey
Casey was just another puppy at the aminal shelter in Oxford Mississippi where I was attending graduate school. After much work across 3 years, our roomate finally allowed Dave and I to bring a dog into the home. Casey was becutiful, graceful and smart. Living with 3 behaviorists, she quickly learned her role and the expectations that we had for her behavior.
One night the worst was almost realized ... when we were not paying attention, Casey slipped out of the home and was struck by a car. Luckily, she survived and came out with no permenant disabilites.
That incredibly terrifying experience helped me and my roomates understand what it meant to TRUELY care for and be responsbible for the life of another being. This impacted how we cared for her, each other and eventaually our spouses, children and new dogs.
